The Woods Under 18s slumped to their fourth defeat in five games, as they failed to meet the commitment of the Maidenhead United side in their Allied Counties League Cup quarter-final tie. It would appear that a number of players were unavailable for this match, and those that did play were not up to the task on the night. The midfield players again tried to play the difficult game when they should be playing it simple, and as a result they gave the front men no service – the Maidenhead goalkeeper did not have to make a save throughout the game. The opening goal came on 22 minutes when Andy Wells drove home from fully 25 yards, beating Ross Thompson comprehensively. From then on Maidenhead put in numerous long-range efforts which the Woods goalie had to deal with. In the second half Tom Jansens cleared an effort off the line as Maidenhead turned up the pace in an effort to finish off the Woods. Jez Reilly made a couple of substitutions, and the Woods came back at Maidenhead, getting their reward in the 83rd minute when substitute Emile Price drove home from 12 yards. However, the lead was short lived as just four minutes later Lee Barney outran the Woods’ right-side defenders, and fired home from wide on the left across the keeper, to take Maidenhead United into the semi-final, and sending the holders Northwood out of the competition. Man of the Match: Max Moore.
